It all began when I was a little girl and my mother would tell me about the writers and musicians that would travel to Paris and never return to the states. Then by the time I was in middle school studying French, I found myself daydreaming about being an international traveler.
My father, a great jazz affectionado started me on the jazz path. He had us on a steady diet of jazz. By the time I was in high school in the city of angels, while my classmates were listening to the “Motown sound”, I was listening to Horace Silver’s “Song for my Father” , South African trumpeter; Hugh Masekela and Donald Byrd’s Cristo Redentor. It was my interest in the injustices of the South African apartheid system that prompted me to research and make it the subject of my senior high school term paper.
All of the above were seeds planted that have taken me on one incredible life journey, from Paris to Montreux, to South Africa, to North Africa, to Egypt, to South America, throughout Europe and the Caribbean. It has been my mission to show others places they have only dreamed of, never realizing it was all within their affordable reach and for those unable to travel with me, well, I invite you to travel along with me anyway……through my blogs.
It’s about time! Great first blog entry and I look forward to following your latest adventures!
