Our annual Negril Getaway is a week filled with the BEST of Negril. We kicked it off with Jazz in the Lobby. This was a time to meet and greet all participants of which 95% were first timers. Lisa Patterson of Oakland was with us for the 11th time since we started in 1999. Juanita McVey a repeater was tour guide for her close friends ; showing them the ins and outs. Dana Terry of Southern California by way of Michigan had invited several of her family members for their family reunion.
Gail Jackson-Brooks always has the best musicians from Mo Bay on hand to keep the groove going for our dancing and listening pleasure. Janice from the front desk put on a terrific one woman fashion show styling the designs of Courtney Washington.
Saturday morning the group headed to YS FALLS on the south coast for getting drenched under the waterfalls, rope swinging and zip lining. The water babies were in heaven. A few hours after returning; cousins Darryl, Gary and myself went to my favorite restaurant, THE ROCK HOUSE. The lovely manageress, Ms Carolyn spotted me as we entered the restaurant and had the hostess escort my party to the secluded VIP section. Dinner was the best, from the appetizers of crab quesadillas and the lobster cocktail to the main courses of blackened mahi mahi and the crispy fried snapper.
The gospel brunch was moving and very inspirational, a time for all to give thanks to God for HIS goodness and tender mercies. It’s a must every year that we do this. Gary Carr of North Carolina led us in praise and worship and gave us his rendition of “Standing on the Promises”, reaching way back to when he was a youngster coming up as a PK.
Promptly at 3pm we set sail for our sunset cruise – music, dancing, open bar, snorkeling and a late lunch of jerk chicken, fresh fruit, cole slaw, coco bread and a magnificent sunset. This was the most relaxing as we cruised down to the world famous RICKS CAFE’ where we watched cliff divers do their thing.
I’ll be back later with details from our dinner party. Until next time…..
it seems we aren’t gettin much interest for our return to PERU next year so it may be replaced with another Negril Getaway but next time in May. You know the in demand ocean front suites are always the first to go. Don’t miss out!
