Colombia, South America ….. Every year in May those of African ancestry get together and CELEBRATE. Join Kattrax as we join them in celebration. All of our hotels are FIVE STAR — only the BEST! — 3 nights in Cartagena, 3 nights in Bogota and 3 nights in Cali.
Here are a few highlights: First night CARTAGENA (only a 3 hr flight from Miami) we will go by horse-drawn carriage on a short historic tour en route to dinner. The next day will be a full-day tour to Palenque (pah leen kay) lunch included. We will Kat Track through this intriguing part of the world that few know about. For hundreds of years this has been home to Afro-Colombians, the descendants of the country’s first slaves. This is truly a different side to Colombia, where they speak Palenquero — the only Spanish-based creole in Latin America.
BOGOTA, a city of contrasts where crime is down 200%. There is so much to see and do while here. We will see their approach to dance and music through the African American culture and to the Academy of Dance to learn about West African dances in South America. A highlight will be the Ascent to Cerro de Monserrate where the view is breathtaking and the church on top houses an image of the fallen Christ.
Finally, CALI (cal lee) the salsa capital of the world – we will be treated to dance workshops, and workshops on myths and legends. One evening will be “Cali by night” which will include dinner and a show. We will visit Zaperoco Bar; the best place to listen to and dance Salsa.
